Pierpaolo Piccioli presented his Resort 2018 collection for Valentino in New York City today, marking the brand’s second pre-collection show in the Big Apple. Piccioli’s first solo collection for Valentino was based on a print collaboration with iconic designer Zandra Rhodes. Her work was seen again in the Resort collection on dresses and patterned jackets. For this collection Pierpaolo brought leisure wear and sportswear back to the runway with a couple of sweat suits, track suits, and varsity jackets. Not only that Piccioli took sport-inspired details like exposed seams and snaps and applied them to Valentino’s signautre midi-dress silhouette.
Valentino put two shoe styles classically considered bad taste on the catwalk. The first one was thin white socks paired with heeled sandals and the second was flip flops. The main thing that stood out to me in this show was the summer colors and also the thin laces and silk which are two of the main fabrics most people look for when they shop for their summer wardrobe. Valentino stands out with just about every show I see and I can’t wait for the winter collection which is my favorite when I think of Valentino.
