Donatella closed out Milan Fashion Week in the biggest way possible last night by making a tribute to her brother Gianni Versace. She displayed most of Gianni’s designs from the 90’s which was so epic by showing off butterfly prints, the Medusa heads, the studded leather, the safety pins, and more, all coming together in a touching tribute of supermodels in Gianni’s signature golden chain mail.
The runway was set up very plain to focus the audiences attention on the models and what they were wearing. Back in the 90’s models came down the runway in groups instead of one by one like you see today. Donatella wanted to bring back that nostalgic 90’s runway to also pay tribute some of Gianni’s classic designs. One group of models who were the most iconic group back then was Carla Bruni, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, and Helena Christensen, who appeared at the show’s close in golden chain-mail dresses to take a bow with Donatella while George Michael’s “Freedom! ’90” played. While they were making that big finally walk down the runway the audience gave them a huge standing ovation letting Donatella know that everyone is still in love with the nostalgia fashion culture of the 90’s that Donatella displayed during her 20th anniversary tribute to her brother Gianni Versace.
